FAQs

Have a question not answered below? Email the Race Director.

What time do I need to arrive on race day?
Plan to arrive by 8:15 AM the morning of the race.  This will provide enough time to check-in your child, have them body-marked and then set-up their transition area.  To help minimize the number of cars in the pool parking lot and along the adjacent streets, please consider walking or riding with your child to the pool rather than driving.

What should I pack on race day?
Two towels—one for the pool and one to sit on in the transition area
Goggles
Swim suit
Swim cap
Socks
Shirt for after the swim to wear on the bike and run
Bicycle
Helmet (required)
Sneakers for cycling and running
Water bottle to drink from during transitions
Sunblock
Dry clothes for after the race

What is body-marking?
During check-in, each child will be body-marked with his/her race number on one arm and one leg, and his/her age on the back of the lower leg. In addition, each child will be assigned a race bib. This bib must be worn and visible on the front of their body either pinned to a piece of clothing or attached to a race number belt during the bike and run. Safety pins will be available at check-in.

How many lengths of the pool is the 50 meter swim?
The Nottingham Swim Club pool is 25 meters.  Children will swim two lengths of the pool.  Children will be grouped by age in swim waves and each child will have his/her own lane.  The swim will be an in-water start—no one may jump or dive in. Children in the older age groups will swim first, followed by the younger children in descending age group order. The swim wave start times will be posted on the web site the week of the event. There will be a 5 minute interval between the start of each swim wave. Parents are welcome to assist their children in the water during the swim. Kickboards will also be available.

What are the bike and run courses?
Bike course: Turn right out of the pool parking lot onto Kingsbridge Terrace. Turn right onto Locksley Lane. At the Catonsville Homes model, turn left onto Kings Forest Trail and continue until the last right (Scarlett Drive). Turn right and continue to the stop sign. Turn left back onto Kings Forest Trial and retrace your path back to the pool parking lot.

Run course: Run to the bottom of the pool parking lot. Cross over the grass and sidewalk onto Longbow Road. Continue straight on Longbow Road to the bottom of the hill by the pond. Turn around and run back.

Maps of both the bike and run courses will be posted on the web site shortly.

Please be sure to review the courses with your child prior to the event. There will be parent volunteers along the course, however, the roads will not be closed to traffic. Parents are welcome to ride/run along with their children to help them feel comfortable.

What does the race fee cover?
The majority of the race fee covers race liability insurance and costs associated with operating the pool.  Any proceeds from the Inaugural Nottingham Knights & Maidens Triathlon will be donated to The Erik Lerch Foundation to help support the families of Mackenzie Stuck and Jacqueline Hobbs.
